I've spent the past 8 years instructing in the outdoors during the summer months, with my winters spent immersing myself with wood making and building with this wonderful natural resource in the workshop. I really enjoy the full process of working with wood, from selection and felling, to hauling it back to the workshop and working with its tactile nature to create the final product.
For me, Shepherds huts and Cabins are especially lovely projects, being surrounded by these lovely spaces as they come to life.
Laura
Laura is an especially important part of the company. Not only is she my partner, but she also keeps the spelling mistakes at bay!
When not out and about on her own adventures, she can sometimes be found giving a hand in the workshop, usually with a paint brush!
Company Ethos
The first Shepherd hut that I looked at years ago has no real records apart from the weather forecast from 1910 written on the wall. It was a simple affair, no electrics with only an oil lamp and a simple bed inside but there was a beauty to it and a warmth in all the intricate details. My aim with this company is to create spaces that have that same feel and by using the right materials from the right places maybe in a hundred years someone might think the same way I did about the first one I encountered.
